French Consulate Event in NYC

A special sneak preview of “France’s Western Front” at the Consulate General of France on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

Travel influencers, writers, journalists, family members of WWI Veterans and diplomats gathered at the Consulate General of France on Fifth Avenue in New York City for a special preview event for “Travels with Darley: France’s Western Front,” debuting on Public TV stations this fall. These episodes commemorate the Centenary of WWI by showcasing sites where Americans fought and communities in Northeastern France still affected by The Great War.

The event was held in the Salon Rose or Pink Room of the Consulate General of France, which is located in the former home of Charles E. Mitchell, once an informal advisor to American presidents Warren G. Harding and Herbert Hoover. The Italian Renaissance-style townhouse overlooks Central Park on New York’s Upper East Side, and the Pink Room has played host to a variety of important events and musical performances throughout history, including from George Gerswhin, Rudolph Ganz, and José Iturbi.

Anne-Claire Legendre, the first female Consul General of France in New York, gave an insightful, heartfelt presentation about the history of The Great War and the importance of remembering past events.

Representatives from Atout France, France Tourism’s New York Office, presented on travel destinations throughout Northeastern France that are accessible to modern travelers. “Travels with Darley” host and producer, Darley Newman presented a special behind the scenes on the filming in France, in addition to stories of the production crew’s time in Northeastern France. She highlighted favorite travel discoveries, including hidden gems and regional culinary delights.

Great gastronomic pleasures from Northeastern France, famous for Quiche Lorraine and Champagne, were also highlighted. Guests were treated to Quiche Lorraine, French cheeses, Pommery Brut Royal from Reims, the unofficial capital of the Champagne region, and La Mouliniere Bordeaux wines.
